The Friday 4am NOAA forecast, the 1am CDIP and the 4am Scripps weather models are in near perfect agreement. The dive forecast is SUPERB.

Ok… last weekend was the VERY BEST weekend for 2008.
With seas so flat you could stand a champagne glass on the surface and not spill a drop. A mirror finish!
Clarity a minimum of 30′ to 40′ no matter where you went and ZERO winds ALL weekend.
The same on Monday when I had the fortunate opportunity to captain the Escapade for Jim Capwell to Carmel for a specialty tech course.
Unbelievable… whales… humpback whale activity everywhere with rare “spy hopping”, breaching and many magnificent tail fluke appearances yesterday afternoon.
The long range forecast for this coming weekend looks like it could be equal to the AWESOME conditions we experienced over the last 3 days.
The 3 am Tuesday forecast for Saturday (5/31/08):
NW winds 5 to 10 KT. wind waves 2 FT or less.
NW swell 3 to 4 FT.
Spaces remain for Saturday and Sunday morning… Saturday afternoon is now filled and Sunday morning will remain closed for this weekend.

The weekend (May 17 and 18, 2008) looks GOOD and I hope some of you can take advantage of it. Above normal temperatures for Monterey and great marine conditions at the same time. How often does this happen?
8:30 pm Thursday Marine forecast for Saturday and Sunday

* NW WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 1 TO 2 FT.

Flat seas 2′ to 5′ swell, almost no wind (5 to 10 knots and warm temps… always a PLUS to have it all on the same weekend).

Okay, I waited until the forecast was cast in cement before I went out with this report:
All 3 models CDIP, FNMOC and NOAA… showing some really fantastic weather and marine conditions and possibly the best combination of both in 2008.
Yes we’ve had a couple of great marine forecast days… and a couple of great sunny days… but this is both at the same time… in the same location. Everything we love about diving.
Seas holding 6′ or less through the entire weekend… with coastal temps around 70+ and inland temps even higher… everything is coming up for a STELLAR weekend for diving in Monterey.
As of Wednesday 3am local time:
Saturday:
* NW winds 5 to 10kt… becoming west wind waves 1ft or less
* West swell 3 to 6ft
Sunday:
* West winds 10kt wind waves 1ft or less. West swell 2 – 5ft
Many reservations available. The weather and marine conditions looking GOOOOD! I try and give you the best info I can so you can get the best bang for your $$$.
I think this will be a good one.

The dives today…
1: Pescadero Pinnacle in Carmel Bay… with reported 60′ by all divers… and only moderate surge
2: Hopkin’s Deep (Metridian Field) in Monterey… poor with 15′ maximum… and only below 60′
Details…
Dive 1: Anchorage was uncomfortable in Carmel with the prevailing wind and swell more like a Maytag than a dive site… BUT clarity was too good to pass on and the 2 groups were there for Advance Open Water final dive. The ADVANCED part they GOT with great vis on the bottom to boot!
About a mile west of us, on the Ocean pinnacles, we observed two or three 12′ to 15′ breaking waves which was like the opening scene of Hawaii Five O…as in Uh..Oh…!
Dive 2: We were anchored in 70′ to 75′ Not a great 2nd dive but, with conditions building on the outside and a forecast of increasing winds, heading home to Monterey for the 2nd dive seemed to me to be the proper choice.
The rides down and back up were bumpy with swell 10′ @ 10 second intervals with about 15 knots of wind.
